There are many places to choose from if you're looking to hire a cottage in the UK, including Northumberland where you can enjoy beautiful countryside views, visit historical sites and walk beside the sea. At Sykes Cottages, we offer a range of cottages in Northumberland; read on to find out more.
We have been renting out holiday accommodation for more than 25 years and, during this time, we have learnt a lot about what people are looking for from their short breaks in the UK. Northumberland has proved a popular destination for families, couples and friends alike for its diversity and wide range of sites.
As the UK's leading independent cottage rental agency, you can be confident that any cottage you book with us will be of a high standard. We personally choose all our properties, which means we only provide top-quality accommodation that we would like to stay in ourselves.
With this in mind, all you need to think about is what you will do during your trip to Northumberland.
Explore Northumberland
If you come to Northumberland on holiday, you will find plenty to do to keep you busy during your trip. Firstly, you could head to the coastline. The Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty offers breathtaking views, so make sure you save some time to come here.
There are several walking routes, and exploring the area by foot will certainly give you some great views of the rugged shoreline and the strong North Sea. You may also spot some of the wildlife that can be seen here. This includes grey seals, geese and ducks.
Head to Beadnell, Embleton and Alnmouth for some of the region's best beaches and you'll also be able to visit quaint villages that have remained unchanged for many years.
To see the best of the county's countryside, make sure you include a trip to Northumberland National Park. This covers a quarter of a million acres of the northern landscape and you can expect to walk through forests and valleys and over meadows.
It is also a great place to get to grips with the county's rich and interesting history. This includes Hadrian's Wall, which was built during the Roman Empire and stretches 73 miles across the country from Wallsend in North Tyneside to Bowness on Solway in Cumbria. You can also see several Iron Age hillforts in Northumberland National Park, while there are several castles and historic sites around the county that you can visit. There are so many in fact that you will never be short of something to do on a day out.
