Mauritius
Mauritius offers a scintillating fusion of African and Indian cultures, with historic towns and perfect beaches to explore.
With plenty of pristine beaches to choose from, you can’t really go wrong. Head to the Grand Bay for watersports including windsurfing and sailing. If you’re after gentle waves and calm bathing spots, the beaches of Pereybere, Blue Bay Belle Mare are for you.
Encounter marine life on a snorkelling or scuba diving trip; you’re bound to come across an abundance of colourful fish and vivid coral beds. Head a bit further out to sea and you’ll find some of the best deep sea fishing in the world. Catches include marlin, Yellow tuna and the barracuda. The most prestigious deep sea fishing competition is the Marlin World Cup which is hosted in December by La Pirogue Hotel.
For a bit of culture, explore Mauritius’s colonial capital – Port Louis. The Caudan waterfront and impressive Citadelle and the ‘bazaar Port Louis’ are some of the highlights.
