If you’re looking to go on exciting family activity holidays that offer something for everyone, you’ll certainly find that Latin America ticks all the right boxes. And while there is no shortage of great places to visit, perhaps two of the best countries for adventure breaks are Ecuador and Costa Rica.
You’ll certainly find that the latter provides plenty of opportunity for people of all ages to participate in exciting activities.
Indeed, by going on an adventure holiday package to Costa Rica you’ll be able to see beautiful cascading waterfalls, visit coffee farms and go white-water rafting.
One place that certainly gives you the chance to have some adventures is the Arenal Volcano National Park. Located in the country’s Alajuela province, the volcano which the park is named after stands some 5,358 ft tall and you can get a closer look at this astounding natural feat by booking a guided tour.
During your time here you’ll also be able to go boating on the vast lake and take an excursion through the forest canopy, before relaxing in a hot spring.
If you and your family enjoy spotting wildlife make sure that you head to the cloudforest region of Bosque de Paz. Here, you’ll be able to see a wide range of creatures including frogs, butterflies and hummingbirds.
Any nature-lovers in your family are bound to enjoy taking a trip to the Lankester Botanical Gardens. More than 800 species of flower bloom here in the months between February and May, while you’ll also be able to see palm and bamboo trees.
However, you may find that you and your loved ones are instead swayed by taking adventure holidays in Ecuador and when you consider the wealth of things that there are to do here it’ll be of little surprise!
Not only will you be able to explore part of the vast Amazon rainforest, but there’ll also be the opportunity to meet members of the Huoarani tribe and learn more about traditional life in South America.
The Cotopaxi National Park is also one of the many highlights of going on family adventure breaks in Ecuador. Mountaineering, horse-riding and hiking are just a selection of the activities you can do here, while you may be interested to note that the park is home to the tallest active volcano in the world!
In addition, you’ll have the chance to stop by Otavalo, a bustling town famous for its thriving market. By visiting here, not only will you be able to interact with locals but also get the chance to pick up some handmade souvenirs.
Many people are drawn to Ecuador because they wish to see the Galapagos Islands, an archipelago that contains a diverse array of natural scenery – ranging from volcanoes to valleys – and also gives you the opportunity to go cycling, kayaking and snorkelling.
This group of islands is more than 500 miles west of the Ecuadorian mainland and as it enjoys UNESCO World Heritage status, you can be confident that you and your family will be able to see some captivating sights.
The archipelago is home to fascinating wildlife, so among the creatures you’ll be able to spot are Galapagos penguins, the native flightless cormorant and blue-footed boobys – a type of bird that likes to show off its large blue feet during courtship.
Other animals that make the Galapagos Islands their home are sea lions and giant tortoises, so there’ll be lots for your kids to keep an eye out for.
Whichever destination you pick, by going on family adventure holidays to Costa Rica or Ecuador you can be sure that you’ll have the break of a lifetime.
