With so many places to visit in Brazil, you can be sure of a real sense of adventure and discovery, wherever you choose to go.
See the incredible Iguazu Falls
Higher than Niagara Falls and even wider than Victoria Falls, the Iguazu Falls in Brazil are absolutely breathtaking. Made up over 150 separate cascading waterfalls, it is one of the most impressive sights the county has to offer.
Spanning both Brazil and Argentina, the bulk of the falls is actually situated in the latter. Our tours of the falls span both countries, although Brazil is said to have the superior viewpoint, with most of them being visible from a single vantage point.
The most famous of the 275 falls is the U-shaped Devil's Throat, plunging some 2,000 ft and spanning 500 ft in width.
Those keen to see the falls up close can explore the Argentine side, where you will have the chance to a take boat right up to them. And if this whets your appetite for the water, you can also take part in a 30-minute rafting excursion nearby – perfect for thrill-seekers!
Other places to visit in Brazil
The stunning Iguazu Falls are not the only place of interest in Brazil. You can experience some of the country's impressive cityscapes by heading to Rio de Janeiro, often called the citade maravilhosa – or marvellous city in English. Sandwiched between the beach and Sugarloaf Mountain, you will see impressive towering glass skyscrapers.
For panoramic views of Rio de Janeiro, why not take a cable car the 1,300 metres to the summit of Sugarloaf Mountain? Here you will be able to take in views across the city and Guanabara Bay, while it's also the perfect place to take some holiday snaps.
Meanwhile, the nightlife here is not to be missed. Home of the samba, the city is the perfect place to get to grips with the dance, so head out to Lapa for an evening on your toes.
With Grand American Adventures, you can also take tours of the city, which are perfect for learning more about it. We will take you up the Corcovado mountain, which is known for its huge, imposing state of Cristo Redentor – or Christ the Redeemer. This also affords excellent views across the city and you will be able to spot some of its main attractions from here.
Meanwhile, nature lovers can head to the botanical gardens or to Tijuca National Park, a stunning tropical rainforest.
And if you want to see some of Brazil's underwater wonders, why not try a spot of snorkelling? Those who prefer to stay dry can choose to hike in the rainforest, where abundant wildlife and plant life can be spotted at every turn.
Those keen to experience a sense of adventure can take a short ferry trip to the Ilha Grande, which – despite its name – is quite small, being half the size of the Isle of Wight. Characterised by beautiful beaches and lush vegetation, this idyllic island is car-free and feels like the ideal escape from the city.
Here you can explore its stunning beaches, such as Lopes Mendes Beach, which is known for being one of the best in the country. Spotting wildlife is also wonderfully fun and you can keep your eyes peeled for sloths, parrots and monkeys.
