If you're planning to go on an adventurous holiday to the USA, you should definitely make time to go to a few of its national parks. America has some of the largest public spaces in the world, giving visitors the chance to get back to nature and take in some breathtaking sights.
Here is a brief guide to a few of the best national parks in the USA.
Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona
The Grand Canyon is often voted as the number one natural spectacle across the globe, with the 29 km wide, 446 km long and 1.6 km deep ravine being the biggest in the world. Therefore, it'd be a shame to go to the USA and miss it.
You will find Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona and more than five million people come to the state every year to see the gorge. You don't have to get out of your car, such is the magnitude of the canyon, and the South Rim is the best observation point if you are merely driving by, being 2,134 m above sea level.
Yosemite National Park, California
If you're holidaying in California, make a stop at Yosemite National Park. It measures 3,107 sq km and boasts beautiful valleys, huge giant sequoia forests, granite cliffs and a vast number of waterfalls.
It was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984 to protect its huge variety of flora and fauna. Indeed, there are 400 types of vertebrates, including the Sierra Nevada red fox, black bear and mule deer. There are several ways you can explore the park and you'll find 800 miles of hiking trails where you can stretch your legs.
Denali, Alaska
If you're looking to have a singles holiday abroad you won't forget in a hurry, you should definitely consider heading to Alaska, as it is home to some of the most beautiful – and impressive – scenery in all of the USA. One particularly breathtaking area is Denali National Park, which covers more than six million acres in the heart of the state.
Here you will find an abundance of wild animals, rare plant species, taiga and alpine forests and snow-covered summits. It is also where America's tallest peak, Mount McKinley, sits at 20,320 ft tall. If you come here during the spring time, you have a good chance of spotting bears that awaken after their period of hibernation, as well as some of the other 39 species of mammals. This is also when 80 per cent of Denali's bird life returns to the national park, so it is the optimum time to come for twitchers.
Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado
Colorado is another state you might choose to visit, as it offers you the chance to explore Rocky Mountain National Park. There are 482.8 km of walking trails within the 1,074 sq km expanse.
You can choose to get active while holidaying here, and there are 150 lakes you can go kayaking around, while its huge pine forests make ideal locations for hiking. Horse riding, biking, fishing, skiing and snowshoeing are also popular activities you can have a go at during your adventure holiday to Rocky Mountain National Park.
