Australia and New Zealand are the top locations for gap year travellers.
That is according to a new study from Hiscox, which finds around 50 per cent of would-be gap year travellers would make Australasia their top holiday choice.
This is followed by Europe, the US, Asia, and South America.
The survey also finds gap years are becoming increasingly popular with more mature travellers. As much as 35 per cent of 45-54 year olds say they are considering a grown-up gap year.
“We are seeing a more discerning group of mature travellers emerging, who expect more from their gap year experience,” commented Austyn Tusler, head of Hiscox’s Art and Private Client division.
“They want to take more expensive belongings with them, pursue whatever sports and activities they like and travel for as long as they wish, wherever in the world they choose, without having to worry. In insurance terms, they expect better quality cover, fewer exclusions and the support of travel and security experts they can trust.”
