There will be an exciting new experience on offer to travellers in Chile next year with the opening of Puma Lodge, the country’s first heli-skiing facility.

Located in a remote area of the central Andes about 90 minutes’ drive from Santiago airport, the lodge is due to open on June 15th 2011.

According to specialist tour operator Exsus, the complex’s location amidst some of the tallest peaks in Chile means that it has more consistent and reliable snow conditions and a longer season than any other heli-ski operation in the southern hemisphere.

Up to 24 guests can stay at the lodge, which will feature facilities including a wine cave with an independent tasting room, a ski shop, under-floor heating and an on-site medical facility.

The establishment will also comprise a spa with a gym, pool and yoga rooms, meaning it can be used as a health retreat during the summer season.

Exsus is currently offering a seven-night package at Puma Lodge from £8,189 per person, which includes six nights at the ski complex and one night at the Ritz Carlton in Santiago, as well as international flights, transfers and private heli-skiing sessions with a qualified mountain guide.

The price is based on a group of four people travelling.
