The UK is a great place to try some winter sports. So, if you're planning on taking to the slopes wrapped up in warm outdoor clothing, have a look at the list of the best destinations in the UK to ski.
Scotland's jutting peaks and cold winter weather make for perfect skiing conditions and it is renowned for its resorts among sports enthusiasts.
Cairngorms National Park in the north-east of Scotland has some of the best mountains in the UK for snow activities, with three out of the five Scottish Ski Centres being within the vicinity.
Make sure you have all your ski clothing if you visit as you'll no doubt want to slide down the slopes once you set your eyes on them.
Or, if you'd prefer, you can simply take in the beautiful vista while climbing or mountaineering. In colder weather, snowboarding may suit your interests more.
CairnGorm Mountain is one of the highest in the national park and as it offers a range of terrains for skiers of all abilities, it is a popular peak to try among visitors.
If you to head to Scotland's largest ski resort, make sure you fit in a visit to Glenshee on your trip. This destination also has a variety of slopes, so you can go there if you're just starting out or if you've been skiing for years. However, it has one of the most difficult black runs in the UK called the Tiger, so you may find a lot of keen skiers come here to take on this challenge.
Beginners or families with young children may instead prefer going to the Lecht, as this is well known for its smaller hillsides, which provide great places to develop skiing skills.
Another popular winter sports spot is the Nevis Range. This is the highest skiing you can do in Scotland with heights reaching 650m, which you can reach using the mountain gondola.
This provides great opportunities to try off-piste black and red runs if you're feeling brave, while those who are less experienced can have a go at the green and blue runs where you can develop your skiing abilities.
There are 24 runs in total here, so you won't be short of something new to try and if you need a break from all the activity, head to the Mountain Restaurant where you can replenish your energy with some tasty, warming treats.
Glencoe, situated in the north-west of Scotland, is another great destination, offering visitors the chance to try 19 different runs.
You can buy a day pass if you would like to visit and try out the gentle plateau. Or, if you're a keen skier and hope to regularly return to try some of the nation's longest and steepest slopes, there's the option to purchase a season pass for this mountain.
And if you want to vary your activities on a trip here, why not attempt snowboarding and sledging for some other types of winter-themed activities?
Skiing in the UK offers sports enthusiasts the opportunity to practise their skills and have a day on the slopes. It is also a chance to take in some of the best views in Britain, enjoying a beautiful snow-white panorama of jutting peaks and Alpine forests.
So, when the winter season commences, pack up your boys' and girls' ski pants and head to Scotland for the best skiing opportunities in the UK.
