Those staying in cheap accommodation in Krakow will certainly not be disappointed with this exciting destination. Famed for its tumultuous political history, the area has a host of intriguing buildings and sights simply not be missed by history buffs.
The Krakow Main Square is an excellent place to start your exploration of the city. The 4,000 sq ft space is lined with restaurants and cafes, as well as stunning buildings such as the Mariacki church.
It is frequently a venue for large events such as gigs and parades and hosts one of Europe’s biggest new year’s parties annually.
Not just a place to enjoy the sights, the square is also often used a meeting point by tourists and residents alike, as well as a location to dine or enjoy a relaxing drink.
Venturing further afield you will find all sorts of architectural delights to keep you occupied. Wawel Castle is one of the main attractions of the city and draws hordes of visits each year.
Walking tours of the castle are available and are an ideal way to view its beautiful design and construction, the state rooms and some original furnishings. The Lost Wawel collection allows you to see a fantastic selection of castle artefacts from as early on as the ninth century.
For something a bit different, the salt mines are well worth a visit during your break. There are regular tours for tourists, which are between 64 and 135 metres underground. During the walks, some of the most beautiful areas of the salt mines can be viewed.
Those keen to experience some Polish nightlife will be spoilt for choice in lively Krakow – the Old Town is home to a multitude of clubs and bars, a lot of which stay open until dawn.
The area also has a fantastic selection of restaurants, with particularly fine dining to be had just off the main square.
Krakow is the ideal location for a short city break, combining lively evenings, quiet drinks and fine dining with an enormous amount of historical and cultural delights.
