Bring your pooch on West Country holidays
Going on holiday is great fun for all the family, but at Classic Cottages we understand that you may not want to leave behind another important member – your dog.
Whether you will miss your pooch too much, would like them to enjoy the fresh West Country air, or if you want to avoid the cost and hassle of putting him or her in kennels, our dog-friendly cottages will keep everyone happy.
Staying in a self-catering cottage that welcomes your pet provides you with the ultimate flexibility. You can take your dog on early-morning walks through beautiful countryside and on sandy beaches, or leave your kids to play with them while you prepare meals.
Wherever you would like to stay in the West Country, we can help you find your ideal dog-friendly property.
Dog-friendly cottages in Cornwall
Cornwall is known for its lovely beaches, but you should keep in mind that not all stretches of sand allow dogs on them in the summer. So, before booking dog-friendly cottages in Cornwall, make sure you read up on where you can take them for walks.
Of course, walking paths and trails will not be a problem, but if you would like to play fetch in the tide, check the access rules. Some beaches do not allow dogs on them between Easter and October 1st, while a large proportion accept your canines all year round.
Just a handful of beaches that welcome your dogs to frolic in the sand and surf at any time of the year include Port Issac Beach, Porthallow Beach, Sandy Mouth Beach, Dollar Cove and Portmellon Beach.
You will also find plenty of outdoors attractions that will allow your dog to visit, so long as he stays on a lead. These include the Trewidden wooden gardens in Penzance and Trevarno Estate in Helston.
Don't forget to find out which pubs are dog-friendly also. Your furry friend can enjoy a bowl of water and a treat as you and your family sit down to sample some of the sumptuous local cuisine.
Many of our Cornish dog-friendly cottages come with enclosed gardens, which is ideal for letting your dog out, so long as you remember to clean up after them!
Take your pet to Devon
Another popular getaway destination for pet owners is Devon. This part of the West Country is full of beautiful coves to discover, many of which are more than welcoming of your pooch.
When searching for dog-friendly cottages in Devon, you might want to keep in mind that all year round you can go for walkies on Mill Bay, Soar Mill Cove, Teignmouth River Beach, Watermouth Bay and Salcombe North Sands, to name a few.
There are also beaches that do allow you to take your dogs on them, but certain rules apply. For example, Hartland Quay does not allow dogs between May and September.
If you fancy trying mouth-watering local produce like the south Devon crab, make sure the pubs you plan to visit will welcome your dog with open arms. The Seagate Hotel in Appledore serves locally caught seafood and allows your pooch to sit with you in the main bar.
