Italy is one of the world’s most beautiful holiday destinations and the wide range of luxurious accommodation on offer ensures that when tourists arrive back home, they are rested and relaxed after their stay.
Many visitors to the country head off on Italy villa holidays to see the stunning lakes region, which is a tranquil and laidback area of the country with some truly breathtaking scenery.
A villa in Italy overlooking one of the region’s most visited landmarks, Lake Garda, is ideal for a relaxing break and there is much to amuse in this part of the country, from fine wines and food to water sports and walking.
Lake Garda is the nation’s biggest body of water and is a stunning spot, lined with spacious celebrity homes and accommodation for those taking holidays in Italy.
With the beautiful mountains as a backdrop and stony beaches all around, the lake is truly the best of both worlds and can appeal to all type of holidaymakers, from hiking fans keen to explore the surrounding peaks and those wishing to kick back and relax in the Italian sun.
A great way to see the lake and its attractions is to hire a boat and meander across the water to the many different communities on its shores.
On the south side of Lake Garda is the fort town of Sirmione, which is one of the area’s most popular tourist spots and is also home to the wonderful Virgilio and Catullo Spa.
Other villages and settlements around the lake include the peaceful Tignale commune and the impossibly pretty town of Desenzano del Garda. This settlement has a bustling harbour ideal for a stroll at any time of the day and is also home to an imposing cathedral honouring St Mary Magdalene.
Those staying in villas in Italy who are interested in the history of the lakes region should visit the town and commune of Lonato del Garda, on the south-west shore of Lake Garda.
Here they will find fascinating Roman ruins, a medieval castle and a number of impressive churches built in the Baroque style.
A visit to the Rocca of Lonato is also well worth it, as the fort is one of the best kept in the area and offers great views out across the water and of the surrounding countryside.
