From May 1st 2010 all new arrivals will be expected to present their insurance policy, which must cover medical expenses, on arrival. The update to the entry policy has left hundreds of UK visitors rushing to buy the necessary policies.

However, the warning has seemingly only served to encourage more people to want to visit, according to travel search engine Cheapflights UK. Searches for flights to Cuba have increased 29 per cent since the announcement.

“Travellers remain undeterred by being banned entry if they don’t possess insurance documents and in a way, this is a positive move on the country’s behalf as being covered by medical insurance during your journey can save you a fortune should need to see a doctor for any reason,” says Nadine Hallak, travel expert for Cheapflights UK.

Perhaps tourists do not mind taking a financial risk in order to get to a witness the Caribbean’s largest island.
