The destination of choice for many visitors to Belgium, Brussels is a small capital but considered by some to be the capital of Europe.

The quintessential short break destination, the city is home to both the European Union and NATO – giving it an international flavour beyond its size. Highlights include the ornate baroque Grand Place, which had served as the centre of the city since its construction in the 13th century, and is now regarded as one of the most beautiful squares in Europe.

Similarly, the Hotel de Ville (Town Hall) acts as a magnet for visitors, with each seeking a glimpse of the famous 315 crooked spire atop the 13th century building. The Manneken Pis also acts as an unofficial mascot for the city, demonstrating dark Belgian humour and a sense of understanding between the French and Flemish communities. For something a little more modern the Atomium was built for the 1958 World Fair and represents a molecule's nine atoms – magnified 165 billion times. It presently houses a museum and acts as a venue for special events. Brussels can be reached by Eurostar or through a host of international airlines flying to is Brussels Airport Zaventem (BRU).
