If you are looking for a destination where the whole family will have lots to see and do then you should head to the Cornish resort of Newquay.
Located on the Atlantic coast of the UK’s most southerly county, Newquay is a veritable haven for those who love to get out and about and appreciate all that the region has to offer.
You could find that self catering holiday cottages in the town or nearby provide the perfect place to stay and give you all the freedom you need to fully enjoy your holiday, as well as lots of space for you and the kids.
So, if you are planning a break to Newquay, what can you expect to find?
One of the reasons that the area is so popular with families is its beaches and you will have four main stretches of sand to choose from – Fistral Bay, Newquay Bay, Crantock Beach and Watergate Bay.
All of these are guarded during the summer season, which generally runs from the start of May until the end of September, so you can feel safe if the little ones want to splash around in the water.
If you have older children, they may want to try their hand at surfing, which is a popular pastime in the region. Newquay in fact hosts surfing competitions throughout the year and is regarded as one of the best places in the country to get to grips with a board.
But spending time at the beach is not the only thing to do during your stay in self catering holiday homes in this part of Cornwall.
Kids are bound to love a daytrip to Newquay Zoo, where more than 130 different species are on show – including lions, zebras, lemurs and parrots.
Meanwhile, if your children are fascinated by marine creatures, a visit to the Blue Reef aquarium at nearby Towan Bay could be perfect.
As well as being wowed by the colourful tropical fish on display, you could be surprised by the host of animals that inhabit the waters off Cornwall – it may even inspire you to explore the rockpools on the local beaches later in your holiday.
If you don’t mind hopping in the car and travelling a little further afield, you could spend a day at the Crealy Great Adventure Park, which is just outside Wadebridge.
Even if it’s pouring with rain, the kids will still have a great time as the attraction boasts two giant indoor play areas.
And the theme park rides are sure to get your adrenalin pumping come rain or shine, while the log flume could be the perfect way to cool off on a hot summer’s day.
