Skiing in Austria can provide some of the most exhilarating experiences of a lifetime – and it can also give you a real sense of relaxation.
Much of what you get out of a skiing holiday depends on where you choose to go and how much you have paid to get there.
A number of cheap ski deals can be found to Austria’s Europa Ski Region, which comprises the village of Kaprun and the picturesque lakeside town of Zell am See.
Set in a valley flanked but mountains, the views throughout this particular Austrian skiing holiday hotspot are spectacular.
There are also various ski runs to suit all types of skier – whether you are experienced on the sticks or at the fledgling stage of a lifetime on the snow.
Kaprun
High-altitude pistes can be found on the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier, providing guaranteed snow throughout your skiing holiday in Austria.
If you are comfortable on your skis then this is the place to head for views of the highest quality, as the lake at Zell am See, as well as the highest mountain in Austria, are both visible from here.
In total, there are 60 runs in Kaprun – 31 beginner slopes, 19 intermediate slopes and nine advanced runs for those of you who know what you are doing!
The village also boasts the Optimum Sports Centre, which has a wide range of facilities to keep people entertained on their skiing holidays.
If you are off the slopes, the plethora of bars, restaurants and other popular night spots in the area give you plenty of opportunities to relax and unwind after a hard day surfing the snow.
However, the adrenaline from the skiing may still be pumping, so there is also the option to head to a local gym, go bowling or take to the swimming pool, among other sporting activities.
Zell am See
Finding cheap ski deals in Zell am See may be more to your liking and this lakeside town is another lovely location for skiing in Austria.
Skiing is the most natural choice of pursuit in this part of the country, but there are many other options for travellers who arrive in this beautiful part of the world.
Much like Kaprun, there are slopes that suit all standards, but Zell am See also has the added bonus of a huge lake that freezes over in wintertime.
Curling and skating can be practiced on top of the water, making for a true sporting winter wonderland.
Shops, bars and cafes line the traffic-free centre to add further fun and entertainment to any holiday at the resort.
Wherever you choose to stay on your skiing holiday to the Europa Ski Region, it is sure to make you feel warm inside, even if the outdoor temperature is freezing cold.
