Golf lovers who are keen to combine their passion for the sport with a break away are sure to find Wales an appealing destination. Dozens of great-quality courses are dotted all over the country, though with many of these situated in Pembrokeshire, the south-west county is a particularly good place for a golfing getaway.
By booking a holiday cottage in the region (something which you can find more about by clicking here) you will not only get to stay in comfortable accommodation, but will also be close to world-class playing facilities. With that in mind, here is a look at some of the best courses Pembrokeshire has to offer.
Newport Links
Golf enthusiasts will be in their element when teeing off at Newport Links. Dating back to 1925, this stunning 18-hole course is situated in Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and enables you to soak up wonderful views of the Nevern Estuary as you play. The par 71 venue ought to be a stern test for even the most experienced golfer; the 564-yard fourth hole – which is the longest hole – could prove especially difficult to overcome.
If you have worked up an appetite after your game has ended, head over to The Links Restaurant. The eatery focuses on making the most of seasonal produce, with wild venison loin and Jerusalem artichoke risotto among the dishes you can expect to tuck into here. Alternatively, you can go into Newport to go shopping at its arts and crafts stores or take a relaxing stroll along the beach, which is a two-minute walk away.
Celtic Haven
A trip to the Celtic Haven course on Tenby will also make for a great golfing break. While officials note that the par 66 course is challenging (the third hole is said to be particularly difficult) it is suitable for people of all ages and ability levels. Consequently, it's a good spot to enjoy a round of golf as a family, with the venue taking a relaxed approach to the players' dress code.
Indeed, you only need to make sure you have soft-soled footwear or specialist golf shoes in order to play here. Also, don't worry if you've left your golf equipment at home, as the course has a number of communal clubs that you can use.
If you think there are parts of your game that need working on before you head out on to the green, meanwhile, you should take a lesson with one of the PGA-accredited professionals who work here.
Priskilly Forest Golf Club
Golfers keen to feel at one with nature while they play ought to head to the Priskilly Forest Golf Club in Haverfordwest. This stunning nine-hole course is situated in the midst of pristine parkland, offering users views of the Preseli Hills and Strumble Head during their game.
There is also the opportunity to look at sycamore and oak trees as you play, though you should be careful to not let the verdant nature district you too much from your game. You will need to overcome a range of tricky obstacles in your efforts to make it to the putting green, with the course's ninth hole widely considered to be one of the best closing par 5 holes to be found anywhere in Wales.
