Situated in the Indian Ocean, Mauritius is an island nation that exudes luxury, through its gorgeous scenery, cuisine and accommodation. To find out all about the top places to stay during your holiday here, read our guide.
Grand Baie
Grand Baie is a lovely coastal village, and one that's perennially popular with holidaymakers. As such, it will come as no surprise to hear there are plenty of fantastic hotels to choose from here – which you book through companies like Wanderforth – such as the Coin de Mire Attitude.
This resort offers idyllic accommodation, complete with quaint thatched roofs. Tucked away in its own private gardens, the hotel is tranquil, pretty and just a stone's throw from the beach. As well as being luxurious and relaxing, this resort also has some great facilities for families, including a kids' club and a babysitting service – though the latter requires an additional fee.
If you are keen to relax, there are a variety of ways to do so here. For instance, there are two swimming pools, while more adventurous travellers can hire a kayak, pedal boat or glass-bottomed boat free of charge. Alternatively, the hotel also offers both car and bike rental if you're keen to explore a little further afield.
Four evenings a week there is live entertainment, usually taking the form of a band or a DJ. Should you fancy doing something a little quieter, however, indulge in a little pampering in the spa – the revitalising Earth Treatment is a particular hit.
Another fantastic option in Grand Baie is Le Cardinal Exclusive Resort, which is one of the smallest resorts you're likely to find on the island. Housing just 13 suites, Le Cardinal is absolutely perfect for couples keen to get away from it all.
Indeed, the setting is wonderfully intimate and peaceful, without feeling too small. Its facilities include a spa treatment room where you can have massages, three restaurants, and the use of the Casuarina Spa situated just across the road.
As well as being a great base for snorkelling, Le Cardinal is the perfect spot for seeing some of the island's best sunsets; indeed, those in the north are particularly well known for being glorious, so don't forget to enjoy a sunset stroll or meal if you do decide to stay here!
Belle Mare
Belle Mare is another excellent spot for luxurious accommodation. Among the best places to stay here is One&Only Le Saint Geran, which has a reputation for the calibre of its spa and the quality of its cuisine.
Stay here and you can enjoy the services of a 24-hour personal butler, who will help ensure your holiday is nothing short of perfect. When you arrive, you'll receive welcome cocktails, while each guest room has a supply of bottled water and fresh fruit. Those travelling with children will be pleased to hear there is a kids' club, which has a fun shipwreck theme, as well as babysitting services should mums and dads need a little peace and quiet.
Keen gastronomes, meanwhile, will be delighted to hear that one of the onsite restaurants – Rasoi by Vineet – is run by Michelin-starred chef Vineet Bhatia. Plus, there are more than 240 wines to choose from at the resort, and the resident sommelier can help you select the right vintage to match your meal and mood.
