Baltic cruise holidays offer some unique opportunities to see several of the best destinations in Europe.
Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, is one of these and is likely to generate some happy memories for those choosing to go on a cruise holiday to the city.
There is much to see and do in Copenhagen, whether you are there for a few hours on an onshore excursion or a few days during a cruise and stay holiday.
Some of its most popular attractions include the spectacular Tivoli Gardens, the National Museum, the Copenhagen Amber Museum and guided tours of the city’s canals and harbours – all of which may be particularly suitable for those in Copenhagen for a short duration.
If you’re planning to stay in the city for longer, further sights include Amalienborg Palace, the National Gallery, the Round Tower – which offers sweeping views of Copenhagen – and Kronberg Castle.
Families embarking on cruises with their kids might want to make sure they take in Copenhagen Zoo, Bakken – the oldest amusement park in the world – and child-friendly beaches at locations such as Amager Beach Park and Bellevue Beach in Klampenborg.
Grown-ups, meanwhile, may want to wander around the Carlsberg Brewery, Frederiksborg and Rosenborg castles, and Nyhavn, a lively area of the city steeped in Copenhagen’s nautical history.
If you’re the active type, Copenhagen has plenty of pursuits to choose from, whether you’re a fan of golf, football, sailing, angling, swimming or running. Travellers looking for a scenic walk may wish to visit the Botanic Garden.
Elsewhere, there are plenty of day trip opportunities outside of Copenhagen. The port of Dragor is a beautiful spot with unique architecture, restaurants and museums, while Hven – which is a 90-minute boat trip away – is the perfect location for getting away from the crowds of the city and getting back to nature.
There are plenty of cheap cruises that sail to Copenhagen, stopping at ports such as Hamburg, Oslo and Stavanger along the way, depending on the cruise package you choose.
Just a few of the companies offering cruises to Copenhagen include P&O Cruises, Cunard and Royal Caribbean.
