'World's best hostels' revealed

Hostelworld.com has revealed the world’s best hostels based on ratings provided by its customers in 2010.
Approximately one million travellers worldwide cast votes for the awards after booking their accommodation with the company, rating their stay on six criteria: character, security, location, staff, fun and cleanliness.
Top spot went to Travellers House in Lisbon, Portugal, which was voted the best hostel worldwide and also topped the category covering properties with a minimum of 50 beds.
The Portuguese capital was also recognised in the section covering hostels with 50 beds or fewer, with the Lisbon Lounge and Rossio hostels taking the top two places.
Krakow’s Greg & Tom Hostel, the Academy Hostel in Florence and Rivoli Cinema Hostel in Porto completed the top five.
Dahab Dorms in Egypt, Han Tang Inn Youth Hostel in China and the Naughty Squirrel Hostel in Latvia were voted the top properties in Africa, Asia and eastern Europe respectively.
Chile’s Andes Hostel, Montreal Central in Canada and Sydney Harbour YHA in Australia received the highest ratings in Latin America, North America and Australia.
More than 25,000 properties in over 6,000 destinations were eligible for the Hostelworld.com awards.
