Climb Kilimanjaro on trekking holidays with Walks Worldwide
Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro is an exciting and rewarding experience and, if you want to make the most of your walking holiday in Tanzania, book a break with Walks Worldwide.
We aim to give you a unique and wonderful holiday by avoiding the most frequently-climbed route to the summit and taking you off the beaten track.
Our guided group tours for a maximum of 12 people are the perfect way to discover the wonderful natural surroundings, while camping on the mountain during your ascent will really help you get back to nature.
Trekking Kilimanjaro – the options
There are two routes you can choose to take to the top of Kilimanjaro, both of which are less frequented than the popular Marangu trail.
The Rongai route is the shorter of the two, taking around six days to complete. Often considered to be the most beautiful track leading to the top of the mountain, this is bound to be an experience you will never forget.
You will begin your Kilimanjaro trekking break in the equatorial forest before you pass the peak of Mawzeni towering above you. You will also walk across the lunar desert and can look forward to taking in a spectacular sunrise from the crater rim at Gillman's Point.
Once you have completed the ascent to the true summit of Kilimanjaro – Uhuru Peak – you will have an excellent view of the glaciers and ice cliffs found at the top of the mountain.
If you have a bit longer for your holiday, you can choose the Shira route, which takes about eight days to complete.
During your trek, you will climb up to the Shira Plateau and enjoy views of the Kibo below the northern ice fields. You will have plenty of time to acclimatise along the way as you climb higher towards the summit.
This route will also take you past the Western Breach and the Barranco Wall, before you reach the final leg of your journey and ascend to the Uhuru Peak.
Extend your Tanzania holiday
If you want to prolong your break and enjoy some relaxation after your Kilimanjaro trek, you could extend your holiday with a trip to Zanzibar.
The spice island situated off the country's coast is a great place to unwind, with golden, palm-fringed beaches and crystal clear waters.
If you want to be active, you could go snorkelling or even learn to scuba dive and explore the beautiful reefs in more detail.
Another option if you are not ready to leave Tanzania after your Kilimanjaro climb is to go on a safari and see some of the country's amazing wildlife.
The experts at Wildlife Worldwide, another brand associated with our company, can help you find the perfect safari experience in some of the best game reserves in the region, including Serengeti, Manyara and Ngorongoro.
