If you are planning to book holiday homes in Cornwall then there is no better time to visit the south-western county than during the regatta season.
From late May until October you will find that many of the coastal towns and villages in Cornwall will host their own sailing regattas.
With everything from small, local events to national gatherings, there will be something to keep everyone entertained.
Some of the larger events that could entice you away from your Cornwall cottages are the Laser UK National Championships in Mount’s Bay or the Falmouth Oyster Festival.
The Laser UK National Championships are usually held in August and promise plenty of excitement as the boats race around Mount’s Bay.
You could find yourself a suitable vantage point on the beach or cliffs and spend a day watching all of the action unfold on the high seas.
If you are more food-oriented and have opted for a holiday home that is self catering in Cornwall then the Falmouth Oyster Festival could go down a treat.
The event is dedicated to Cornish seafood – which of course includes oysters – and is usually held in October to coincide with the start of the oyster dredging season.
When you’ve had your fill of delicious food and drink, you could always choose to dance the night away at the Oyster Ball, which is held each year on the final night of the festival.
No matter where you stay in Cornwall over the summer, you are sure to find a regatta or fair nearby that you can visit during your break.
Villages such as St Mawes, Loe Beach and Flushing all host annual fetes, with fun activities for all the family both on and off the water.
Another regatta not to be missed is the week-long event in Fowey. As well as plenty of sailing action, there is a carnival, musical performances on the quay and a display by the Red Arrows to keep the crowds entertained.
There are also lots of things for the little ones to get involved with so it’s a great choice for a family day out.
