Sierra Nevada is one of the best ski resorts in Spain. It is located in Andalucia and every year hosts a great number of holiday makers that look for some days in the snow mountain of Sierra Nevada.
Its high altitude above sea level, 3.300metres, allows snow during all the winter time. Under normal conditions the season is typically the longest in Europe, from late November to mid-May. The slopes are quite wide, and different depending on skiing levels. Sierra Nevada reached its status of a quality ski resort after the success of the World Ski Championships in 1996. Thanks to its international relevance, its proximity to the coast, its 62 kilometers slopes and its pleasant climate, has become a winter holiday destination for many European skiers.
Self catering in Spain for ski holidays can also be found in Sierra Nevada and the towns around.
At the end of the ski season, Pradollano which is the base of the ski resort, shifts into a lively city full of restaurants, shops, pubs and discos.
Sierra Nevada is located just twenty-five minutes drive from the city of Granada, and hosts a large number of skiers who daily go up to the mountain to ski and drive down to Granada to enjoy one of the most important monumental cities of Europe. Granada is home of the Alhambra Palace and Generalife, both architectural jewels of the Arab art.
A good recommendation during a holiday in Granada is to visit the Albaicin quarter, an old neighborhood declared as World Heritage site.
