Escape to the Balearic Islands with villas from Premier Holiday
Spain's Balearic Islands are perhaps best-known for attracting crowds of party lovers every summer – but there's much more to these scenic Mediterranean destinations than meets the eye.
The islands are perfect for both hedonistic beach breaks and quiet getaways thanks to villa holidays that allow you to explore the many different facets of the Balearic landscape and culture.
If you're searching for luxury villas that will let you do just that, Premier Holidays has a wide range of accommodation across Mallorca, Ibiza and Menorca that can create whatever kind of escape you're looking for.
All about the Balearics
Mallorca is the largest of the Balearic Islands and offers landscapes ranging from white sand beaches and rolling countryside to soaring mountains and pine groves.
Also known as Majorca, the island's 550-kilometre coastline is packed with stretches of sand perfect for sunbathing and water sports – but if you want to escape the crowds and experience the real Mallorca, the north coast is the perfect place to stay.
There are many Majorca villas to be found in the island's northern reaches, along with some of the best beaches in the destination.
One of the highlights of a stay in north Mallorca has to be the stunning backdrop of the Sierra de Tramuntana Mountains, which boast peaks rising some 1,400 metres above sea level and offer plenty of hiking opportunities for keen explorers.
Two places to see while in this part of the island are Pollensa and Alcudia. The former harbours some wonderfully large beaches that include Llenaire, Formentor and Cala Gentil, along with secluded coves and some magnificently high cliffs.
Alcudia, meanwhile, is home to Mallorca's biggest beach and a historic centre enclosed by walls where you can see dwellings, a forum and a theatre dating back to the Roman era. Head out of the town and you'll be able to explore picturesque pine woods and spot some native fauna.
If you're planning a villa holiday in Ibiza, you will find again that this is an island of contrasts. Urban hotspots such as Ibiza Town, Santa Eulalia and San Antonio are the places to go for top restaurants and plenty of shopping, while there are many beaches to lay your towel on along the 210-kilometre coastline.
However, if you use these towns as a base from which to explore the rest of the island, you will soon discover that there are some fascinating things to see and do further inland. Ibiza is a UNESCO World Heritage site for good reason – just a few of its culturally and historically significant sights include Puig des Molins' necropolis, the old town of Eivissa in Dalt Vil and a wonderful Phoenician area in Sa Caleta.
For a slightly quieter holiday experience, consider renting a villa in Menorca. This small island boasts some beautiful green countryside, gorgeous white sand beaches, protected parks and the opportunity to undertake a host of water sports – particularly diving, as the waters around the destination are a designated UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
