Malaysia Airlines are now flying direct from Kuala Lumpur to Sabah province twice daily, the airline announced yesterday.

Departing at 0820 and 1420 to the city of Tawau with departures at 0805 and 1520 to the town of Sandakan, the service, with a 20kg baggage allowance, adds to the existing routes to Kota Kinabalu, Labuan, Kuching, Bintulu, Miri and Sibu.

Tawau boasts impressive scuba diving, historic sites and nature reserves and is an ideal stop en route to Sipadan, the only oceanic island in Malaysia, which rises about 5,000 feet above the seabed.

Situated on the original Japanese prisoner war camp site, the Sandakan Memorial Park that commemorates the men who lost their lives in the Borneo Death Marches during World War II, attracts many foreign tourists.
