What to do on a new year's break in Wales

Wales offers a plethora of different ways of ringing in the new year - and with Pembrokeshire being one area of the principality that is packed with attractions and events, it may be a good idea to see in January in the county.

The region is well-known for its beautiful sea views, as well as the wide range of things that visitors to the area are able to see and do.

Combining these with a short new year break could well make for a celebration to remember.

There are a number of annual and one-off events that take place in Pembrokeshire to mark the start of the new year.

One of the biggest of these is the New Year's Eve celebrations in Saundersfoot, which occur right on the harbour and include live music and a massive fireworks display.

Elsewhere, there are new year's galas for those who like to dress up and smaller fireworks shows and parties are hosted at venues across Pembrokeshire.

If you're looking for an unusual way of starting the new year after a night of partying, you might want to join in the Saundersfoot New Year's Day Swim.

The event takes place in Saundersfoot Harbour and sees over 1,000 people jump into the cold water to raise tens of thousands of pounds for charity.

Of course, if you don't fancy immersing yourself in the January sea, you could always go along just to watch.

There is plenty to see and do in Pembrokeshire on cottage holidays in Wales over the new year's break.

The county has dozens of historic sites and museums to explore if you love delving into the past, while attractions for those heading to Wales with children include seal safaris, the Welsh Wildlife Centre, canoe trips and go karting.

For nature lovers, why not visit the Hilton Court Gardens or the Buckette Fort Gardens for the opportunity to take in some beautiful scenery on your Pembrokeshire new year holiday?

The county also boasts some wonderful restaurants offering both traditional local cuisine and international dishes, as well as a number of bustling pubs to help liven up the evenings - so you can be sure that you won't be short of things to do on a new year's cottage holiday in Pembrokeshire.
